Therapy for the Queer Community

Therapy for LGBTQIA+ Individuals and Couples in Brooklyn, NY

Who You Are

LGBTQIA+ people comprise a vibrant and multifaceted community stretching all across the world. Whether you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, nonbinary, gender fluid, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, agender, or any combination or variation, or whether you deny labels altogether, you are part of a complex and special network.

While everyone has a unique journey, you may relate to one of the following situations:

  • You might be out and established in your community

  • You might not feel safe identifying or expressing yourself authentically

  • You might be in the early stages of questioning your sexuality, romantic attractions, or gender

  • You might be preparing for coming out in one or more areas of life

No matter where you are in your journey, being a queer person in a straight world comes with its own challenges.

Stigma, Cultural Intolerance, and Mental Health

We hear about all sorts of discrimination and microaggressions faced by queer and trans people on a daily basis. You might not feel safe or welcome at home, at work, or out in the world at large. Or perhaps you may have found your chosen family or chosen home and you are rooted in your identity, but still carry trauma from painful past experiences.

When a community at large has been marginalized the way the LGBTQIA+ community has, we know that many queer and trans people have a shared experience of trauma. To some extent this trauma has been woven into the cultural history of the community and has led to successful resiliency building and activism efforts. However, even the strongest people need support, too.

Therapy Can Facilitate Healing and Growth

Therapy can be a welcoming and inclusive space for you to discuss and explore your journey and experience through sexual, romantic and gender issues.

Therapy can be a place for you to address trauma and start a process of healing, or it can be a place for you to learn more about the parts of yourself that have been repressed or denied.

Therapy can help you to prepare for coming out, to manage safety concerns, and/or to advocate for yourself at home, school, or work.

You might be in therapy for other reasons but prefer a therapist from within the LGBTQIA+ community.

No matter what, you are welcome here.
